How to Apply via Video / Audio Application
Overview: read the questions first, record clear and detailed answers, upload the file (Google file or open-access link preferred), then email the file or link to programmes@uwf.org.nz.
1. Read & plan
Read every question below before you start recording.
Jot bullet answers or a short script so your responses are clear and complete. You don't have to memorise — using notes is fine.
2. What to include in your recording — Introduction (start here)
Please cover these items early in your recording:
Your Full Name | Tō Ingoa
How you identify culturally & any iwi / hapū (if applicable)
What you are currently doing (school / tertiary / workplace) and study level if applicable
How did you hear about us?
Which position you're applying for: Full scholarship (fully funded) or Partial scholarship (partially funded — I can contribute/find support to cover the $800 fee)
3. If applying for a Full Scholarship — answer these questions
Cover these clearly and with examples where you can:
Tell us a little about yourself and your background.
Why are you interested in this leadership programme?
How do you see this programme helping you grow?
Describe a time you showed leadership or took initiative (school, community, whānau, group). What happened?
What challenges or barriers would make it difficult to participate without a scholarship?
The scholarship asks for a reciprocal contribution (sharing your learning, creative project, or community action). What would you be willing to contribute?
How do you hope to use what you learn for your community or whānau?
Anything else you want us to know that supports your application?
4. If applying for a Partial Scholarship — answer these questions
Tell us a little about yourself and your background.
Why are you interested in participating? What inspires you about this opportunity?
How will you use what you learn to benefit your community or whānau?
Anything else that supports your application?
5. Recording tips & suggested lengths
Recommended total length:
Full scholarship: aim for 4–7 minutes.
Partial scholarship: 2–4 minutes.
These are guides — be clear and concise; quality over length.
Speak clearly, close to the microphone, and avoid noisy backgrounds.
Video: frame from chest up, neutral background, good light on your face.
Audio-only is fine — an MP3 or M4A works well.
If you prefer to present visually (slides, photos, short footage of your work), that’s great — just keep the file size manageable or upload to Drive and share the link.
If you can, include te reo / te ao Māori perspectives if they’re part of your story.
6. File formats we accept
Video: MP4, MOV (MP4 with H.264 is best).
Audio: MP3, M4A, WAV.
If your file is very large, use Google Drive or a transfer service and share the link (see next step).
7. File naming convention (please)
Name your file like:
Surname_Firstname_MainlandMarlborough_2026.mp4
(e.g. Smith_Rina_MainlandMarlborough_2026.mp4
)
8. How to share (Google Drive preferred)
Desktop / Laptop
Go to drive.google.com and sign in with your Google account.
Click New → File upload and choose your recording.
After upload, right-click the file → Share → under Get link, Change to anyone with the link → set to Viewer → Copy link.
Paste that link into your application email (see template below).
Mobile (Android / iPhone with Google Drive app)
Open the Google Drive app → tap + → Upload → choose your file.
Once uploaded, tap the three dots next to the file → Share → Copy link → make sure link setting is Anyone with the link can view.
Paste link into your email.
If you prefer not to make the file public: instead of “anyone with the link”, you can share the file directly with programmes@uwf.org.nz using the Drive share dialog (this will allow the team to access it). If you do this, please say so in your email.
If you can't use Drive: attach directly to the email (Gmail limit 25MB) OR use WeTransfer/Dropbox and paste an open link in your email.
10. Email subject & what to include in the email

11. Privacy & permission notes
